Queen Esthers Deeper Mission, Breaking the Cycle & Bringing Healing to Her Family.

Queen Esther’s mission wasn’t to save the Jewish people from Haman’s evil decree.

It was to heal a deep family wound.

First, it is important to note, that until Megillas Esther was written the Jewish nation was referred to as ‘Bais Yaakov’ or ‘Bnei Yaakov.’

Why are they now called “Yehudim?”

UNDERSTANDING THE FAMILY WOUND

Yaakov’s favoritism toward Yosef and Benyamin created deep resentment among the brothers, leading to Yosef’s betrayal and sale into slavery. This division persisted through generations, reaching its peak by the reign of King Solomon, causing the Jewish people to divide into two kingdoms.

The 10 tribes exiled by Sannecheireb are scattered & lost. Fast forward to Perisa, 474 BCE, the remaining two tribes, Yehuda and Binyamin, and the rift is as big as ever. The remnants of the kingdom of Yehuda thought of themselves as “Yehudim”.

“Yehudi” doesn’t really mean Jew; it means a Judahite, someone from the Kingdom of Judah.

Mordechai and Esther were from the tribe of Binyamin.

Mordechai & Esther are in a position to mend the history of conflict on the two sides of the Jewish family. Esther understood her purpose as Queen was not to save the Jewish nation from Hamans evil decree.

Esthers mission was to heal a deep family wound that was threatening to tear her people apart from the inside out.

She had the emotional insight that she was a participant in a dance of historical drama and given the opportunity to heal wounds that ran deep. Guided by her feminine intuition, Esther carefully chose her words echoing phrases from Yakov & Yehuda to highlight unresolved familial conflicts and the potential for reconciliation.

Jacob: And if I am to lose (Binyamin) then so be it; I shall lose (him).

Esther: “If I am lost, then so be it; I shall be lost.”

Judah: “How can I possibly go back to my father without the lad? How can I possibly bear to see the terrible (fate) that will befall my father?”

Esther: “How can I possibly bear to see the destruction of my kin? How can I possibly bear to see the terrible (fate) that will befall my people?”

HEALING THE FAMILY WOUND.

The great divide in the family started when Yosef, child of Rachel, is his fathers deputy. His brothers, the children of Leah, resented him so much “(and the brothers of Joseph) hated him, and could not speak peacefully to him.” (B’reishis)

Esther, descendant of Binyamin, child of Rachel, could have stayed quiet, or only beg to spare the life of “her fathers house”, tribe of Binyamin.

Esther instead chooses to risk her life for the house of Yehuda, the “Yehudim”.

When Esther succeeds, Mordechai, a descendant of Binyamin, the child of Rachel, becomes deputy. He also chooses to act differently creating peace within the Jewish nation.

“For Mordechai the Jew…sought the welfare of his nation, and spoke words of peace to all his children.”

Esthers delicate yet powerful approach, worked to restore unity so the Jewish people would come together – not just against external threats, but in overcoming their internal fractures.

As the last words of the Megilla tells us, “And he spoke peacefully to all his children.”

This time, there is no “other” side of the family. This time, they are all his children.
