I Was Sexually Harassed at Work. Here’s What Happened When I Spoke Up.

I had text messages and call logs to prove it. I met with my boss, confident he would do something about the man at work who was harassing me. Instead, he laughed.

He said it couldn’t be true.

I told him I had proof.

He told me he didn’t want to fire him because he was “the best guy on the floor.”

I said, “I’ll leave.”

His response? Oh, like after Pesach when the busy season is over, right?

(Asshole.)

I stood up and said, “No, I’m leaving now.” I turned my back, left the room, and punched out.

My workmate Rachel* and I walked to our usual pizza shop for lunch. I told her what had been happening, that I finally worked up the courage to speak up. I told her our boss laughed, dismissed my concerns, and told me to “ignore him and get over it.”

Rachel listened intently. When I told her I had quit and would never go back, she burst into tears.

She shared that one of the senior employees had been taking advantage of her for years. She wanted to speak out, to put an end to his harassment. But as a single mom depending on the steady income, she felt she didn’t have a choice.

I wish I could say this story has a happy ending. That Rachel* worked up the courage to leave that man and the abusive workplace. I don’t know what happened to her. We stayed in touch for a bit, and then it fizzled out.

But I do know what happened to me.

I was 19. I had already lived through sexual traumas and abuse, and I was so fucking sick of men taking advantage of me. I told myself—No more. I will speak up and stop this. I will not allow this to happen to me anymore.

I was very scared.

I will speak up and stop this. I will not allow this to happen to me anymore.

I was still scared. But I thought: a nice guy like my boss? Surely, he would care and help me. He didn’t.

But I did.

In that moment, I chose me.

Experiences like these leave lasting imprints on our nervous system. They create limiting beliefs:

  • That we aren’t protected or cared for.
  • That we’re loved for our looks, not for who we are.
  • That we caused these things to happen to us.
  • That we deserve it.
  • That we’re unworthy of love.

In my work, I guide women to identify these limiting beliefs. I lead them through an embodied healing process. I give them tools to connect with their voice and teach them how to speak their needs and desires with confidence.

My clients reclaim their voice. And most importantly, they reclaim their worth.
