From Darkness to Light: A Journey of Trust & Healing

Sunday morning, November 3, 2024

Zissy to Zipporah: “Hey, random question, would your studio be able to hold about 100 people?”

Zipporah to Zissy: “That would be a tight fit. What’s it for?”

Zissy: “I got Rabbi Shais Taub to come to Lakewood. I just need to find a location. Any ideas?”

Around two and a half years ago, I was in a very dark place. I’ve faced many challenges and difficulties since childhood, and I’ve fallen into depression and darkness many times. But this time? This was rock bottom. I felt I had lost everything. I felt like I had nothing left, and quite frankly, I didn’t feel like starting over. Again.

I had no choice, I had one choice. G-d.

After about a year of working through the multitudes of triggers that were offset by this experience, I felt called to learn the Sefer Sha’ar HaBitachon (The Gate of Trust). I had heard of it before—how it had transformed so many lives—but I hadn’t felt drawn to it. There were always other things I wanted to learn first.

Then, in September 2023, I began to learn Sha’ar HaBitachon. What started as a personal study quickly expanded. First, I invited two friends. Then, two more. Before I knew it, a group chat of 91 women had formed, and I was uploading recorded lessons to YouTube.

The book Sha’ar HaBitachon (The Fellig Edition) contains profound wisdom but can be challenging to comprehend. To better prepare for the lessons I taught, I sought out additional resources.

That’s when I came across Rabbi Shais Taub’s lectures on Spotify. I was already familiar with his Tanya shiurim, but I noticed he had a whole series on Sha’ar HaBitachon. I was hooked.

Rabbi Shais Taub’s lessons are insightful (and entertaining!) breaking down each section with such clarity and depth. His teachings became a key part of my preparation. When I prepared from his lesson, I made sure to acknowledge him in mine.

Every Tuesday at 9 p.m., I showed up to teach live online. Sometimes there were 10 participants. One time there was just one. But I showed up week after week, even when it wasn’t easy.

I was tired.
I had long days.
Some lessons triggered deep emotions.

But I had made a commitment to myself—and I kept showing up.

Fast forward to a bit over one year and 47 lessons later. That’s when Zissy reached out.

“I don’t know if you know this,” I told her, “but Rabbi Shais Taub has been a big part of my spiritual journey this past year…. And I’m just about to complete the book! We’re going to find him a place to speak.”

Hashem coordinates our lives with unconditional love and care for each of us. He watches over us, guiding us through our challenges so we can grow into the best versions of ourselves.

Often, we don’t understand why things happen. Many times we don’t feel His presence.

That’s the challenge.

But if we can surrender to the process—if we allow ourselves to fall into His arms and trust that He will never leave us—something shifts. When we show up every day and do the best we can, trusting that He loves us just as we are, we can begin to see and feel His love and guidance, even in the darkest moments.

If we can choose to see with our hearts.

It is my utmost honor to emcee Rabbi Shais Taub at this special FREE event for women on Emuna & Anxiety, next Tuesday at 8:30pm in Lakewood, NJ.! RSVP: Or $10 at the door. [email protected]

Thank you Hashem, for this gift.

I hope to see you there!

XO,

Zipporah Ruth
